It did make me giggle, said Matt Hughes, who has had 23 UFC matches, recounting with a laugh the amazement in which people looked at the front headlcok Hughes used to tap out Almeida.
Kind of surprised that people don’t know more about it . . . Even more than that, I was happy that the sport of wrestling got all the recognition for that win. That made me happier than anything. That win came from wrestling and wrestling only.
These last couple fights, I’ve really, really had a good time. The walk-out, in the locker-room. It’s all just been extremely fun. I think I’ve found a way, and I can’t explain it, where I’m just having a good time out there. I’m just having fun with it.
In their previous encounters, Penn stunned Hughes with a submission victory at UFC 46 in 2004 to win the welterweight title, with Hughes earning a TKO win in the rematch at UFC 63 in 2006. Any unsettled score will be taken care of at the Palace of Auburn Hills. If a win get him back in the title picture for one last run, all the better.
I don’t know who would be in front of me. I don’t know who would be behind me as far as on the ladder for the title shot. I’m still fighting because I still enjoy getting in there.
Matt Hughes faces BJ Penn in a rubber match at UFC 123 in Detroit on Nov. 20.
