Unfortunately, in an interview with Singapore’s Justin Ong for Yahoo Sports, Marvelous – yes, that is his legal first name – shows a complete unfamiliarity with the world’s fastest growing sport, and thus has a dim view of it.
That sport right there, I can’t see any art inside, said the 59-year-old Hagler. If you wanna teach a kid how to fight (in MMA), you can just take him to the bar. That’s what it looks like to me.

It’s really taking off… It’s growing because boxing has been drifting away, so it’s brought that (MMA) into the spotlight.”
Everybody’s hoping we’ll find another heavyweight like Mike Tyson but I don’t think we’re gonna find that.”
Fighters aren’t the same (these days). They don’t sacrifice enough, they’re not hungry enough… You gotta have that killer instinct and I see a lot of them, they don’t have that,” he said in conclusion.

Marvelous Marvin Hagler is not a stupid, small-minded, male grandmother, as so many opponents of MMA are. Marvelous is a great warrior and a hero. With some education, he would love mixed martial arts. He just lacks the education. So let his distaste for MMA serve as a lesson in the need to educate people.
