UFC heavyweight Mark Hunt was pulled from a fight vs. Marcin Tybura UFC Fight Night 121 last month over medical concerns. The fighter had said in an interview that he was showing symptoms of CTE.
“You can hear me starting to stutter and slur my words,” said Hunt to Australia’s Player’s Voice. “My memory is not that good anymore.”
After being pulled from the fight, a livid Hunt said that he had been misquoted, and charged colorfully that UFC president Dana White had it out for him personally. White explained not unkindly that that was not so, that he was being a decent human being and responsible promoter
Earlier this week Hunt’s manager Zen Ginnen told Nick Walshaw for Australia’s The Daily Telegraph that doctors have cleared Hunt to return to the Octagon.
Now that information has been confirmed by the UFC.
After a full medical analysis at the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas, UFC confirms that heavyweight athlete Mark Hunt has been cleared to compete, reads a statement provided exclusively to MMAFighting.com.
Hunt’s manager said the fighter wants a rematch with Fabricio Werdum at UFC 221 on February 11, 201, in Perth, Australia. It’s a good fight, and one the UFC might be inclined to make, to engender some goodwill.
Hunt is also engaged in a lawsuit vs. the company, over Brock Lesnar’s failed PED test.
