Marcus Davis feels a lot lighter on his feet these days.
Coming off two losses in a row, the 36-year-old was in need of a change. So Davis is focusing less on the weight room, a decision he hopes will lead to a successful 2010.
The native of Bangor, Maine, feels he is in the best shape of his life.
It’s weird for me because normally I walk around at 205 and right now I’m 180 pounds, Davis said recently. I’m probably about 180 pounds five days before the fight. So I’m in really good shape.
After competing on the second season of The Ultimate Fighter, Davis became one of the most improved fighters to grace the UFC. Since 2006, he is 8-3 inside the Octagon. However, he has lost three of his last five fights.
I’m staying off the weights and that’s one thing that’s been a problem. Davis said. Every time I’ve been fighting people I’ve always, depending on who it was, jumped on the weights. And every fight I’ve ever lost I’ve been using the weights.
The (Mike) Swick fight I actually got injured because of weightlifting. The Dan Hardy fight I did a lot of weight training and I still think I won that fight, but whatever. And my last fight I did a lot of weight training. So I’m giving that stuff up. I’m not doing it anymore and just sticking to plyometrics, isometric training and my fight training.
