Mansur Malachiev (11-0) made a splash in his ONE Championship debut this past weekend, but ONE strawweight world champion Jarred Brooks (20-2) wasn’t impressed.

The undefeated Dagestani dominated Jeremy Miado en route to a first-round submission victory at “ONE Fight Night 11: Eersel vs. Menshikov” on Prime Video in Bangkok, Thailand, this past Friday, and he reflected on a recent interaction he had with Brooks when asked who he would like to face next in his post-fight interview.

“Actually, I wrote something on Instagram to the champion, and he replied to me. He was like, ‘Win this fight first.’ So, that is what I did, and I’m ready for the next one,” he said.

“If the champion is not going to stand up to his word, we’re just going to move forward and take the next opportunity. I’m very confident that I’m going to win the next fight.”

The 31-year-old star made it clear that he believed he had earned a meeting with Brooks following his impressive win over Miado and that the divisional king had gone some way toward agreeing to a fight.

“The Monkey God” was quick to respond to Malachiev’s comments, however.

He took to his Instagram to clear up any confusion and give his views on the Russian’s performance overall.

“Notice that this man didn’t even say my name. He just said, ‘The champion.’ Yeah, you best know it, Mansur,” Brooks quipped.

“But on a personal note, I wasn’t impressed by your performance. Going into Miado, you just went straight for his Achilles heel. Everyone’s beaten him that way. You didn’t show diversity. You just tried to take him down the whole time. So, good luck doing that to me if you do face me. Keep on working.”

Malachiev may not be stepping into action opposite the world champion anytime soon, but his electric display against Miado live on Prime Video at ONE Fight Night 11 certainly proved that the stacked strawweight division has a new star to watch.
