“I had an accident and I will go through a surgery hurriedly here in [São Paulo], I lost a lot of blood but God willing I will be well,” he wrote on his social network. “I lost a lot of blood but thanks to God I’m already going to surgery. … ” The surgery took 35 minutes and thanks to God I was all right, what I thought I would do in the next months will postponed 90 days.”
The fighter told Guilherme Cruz for MMA Fighting that he underwent the surgery on Saturday, and was released from the hospital on Sunday.
I cut an artery and underwent a quick surgery, he explained. I’ll get it checked again in a week. I can’t [train or fight] for three months.”
The fighter chronicled the gruesome accident on his social network.
Maldonado, 37, is coming off a first round TKO over Abdl-Khamid-Davlyatov at EFN 60 on March 5. He has also been boxing.
