Maiquel Falcao had a short, strange trip in the UFC.

On November 20, 2010, he debuted at UFC 123, taking a unanimous decision over Gerald Harris. Falcao later claimed that Harris, who was promptly released after the loss. had tapped three times during the bout, one of which was to a sunk rear naked choke that was stopped when the round ended five seconds early.

Days later, Falcao was arrested in Brazil over an assault on a woman that dated back to 2002. The fighter had been sentenced to a two year house arrest in 2002, but before completing the sentence, moved homes, wth the assurance from his lawyer that the Brazilian authorities would approve. Falcao was held for four days, then released and given 18-months probation.

In January of 2011 he pulled out with an injury from a scheduled fight at UFC Live: Sanchez vs. Kampmann against Alessio Sakara.

Falcão was expected to face Tom Lawlor at UFC (Rio) 134 on August 27, 2011, but was released in May for what his manager described as “some legal problems Maiquel got involved recently.”

He recently signed with Bellator, and then last week Tatame reported that Maiquel Falcao was hospitalized in Brazil after suffering a heart attack. Maiquel is still on the Intensive Care Unit,” his manager was quoted as saying. “And might stay there for few more days, when he’ll go through a catheterization. He’s lucid and improving fast.”

Now Falcao has announced on his official Facebook page that he did not have a heart attach after all.

“I wish to say that I’ve had some health problems caused by excessive training,” Falcao stated. “This generated several rumors, but none of them is true. What actually happened was too much training, not enough rest.”

“I want to say that I’m already getting ready to put on a great show in California in the Bellator grand prix.”
