Lyoto Machida is currently the number two ranked middleweight and this weekend battles number four ranked Luke Rockhold in the main event of UFC on FOX 15. Machida believes a win over Rockhold will solidify him as the next middlweight title contender:

“I think whoever wins the fight will go for the title. I’m very excited for that. I had a great camp and I’m very confident for this fight,” Machida told FOX Sports.

“I believe I’m the next for the title. I believe I can fight the champion. I already have experience fighting for the title at 185 and I think it will be different if I fight (Chris) Weidman again.”

Number one contender Jacare Souza also fights at the same event, albeit against unranked middleweight Chris Camozzi. As we have learned in the past, anything can happen though so we will have wait till the dust settles on Saturday to see who emerges as the number one contender.
