Former and inaugural Bellator MMA welterweight champion Lyman Good has been pulled from his fight with Belal Muhammad at UFC 205 over a potential doping violation.
The unfortunate news comes via UFC.com.
The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Lyman Good of a potential Anti-Doping violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collected on October 14, 2016. USADA has provisionally suspended Good based on the potential anti-doping violation.
Good was scheduled to fight Belal Muhammad in New York at UFC 205. The UFC is currently seeking a replacement to fight Muhammad.
USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case. It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. Consistent with all previous potential anti-doping violations, additional information or UFC statements will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.
Good has now been replaced with Vicente ‘Silent Assassin’ Luque, who is on a three-fight win streak in the UFC, that includes two Performance of the Night bonuses.
UFC 205 would have been Good’s second fight in the UFC, and it would have been in front of a hometown crowd – Good is a Manhattan, New York native. Good defeated Andrew Craig at UFC Fight Night 71 in July of 2015 in his league debut. He was scheduled to fight Omari Akhmedov in December of 2015 but withdrew with an injury.
There was no word on what Good’s potentially failed test was for, that will likely be announced when his B-sample returns. If he failed for a PED, and the test is determined to be legitimate, and it is determined that the failure was not due to a tainted supplement, then Good, 31, faces a two-year suspension.
