Fans of Derrick Lewis were scared at UFC Fight Night 105, as the UFC heavyweight clutched his stomach and grimaced for an extended period of time while fighting Travis Browne. Was there a liver shot we missed? A blow to the floating rib perhaps? Was the wind kicked clean out of him by one of Browne’s long kicks??!?

At the post-fight press conference, The Black Beast explained.

“It was more of, I’m just trying not to s*** on myself,” he said, adding, “You know?

I’m holding my gas in and trying to breathe – at the same time, I just didn’t want to s*** on national TV, said Lewis as transcribed by Steven Marrocco for MMAjunkie. Especially with this internet going around, making memes of me, nah, I couldn’t have that. No Charlie Brown.

Lewis had an answer to the problem. He, eased out a little fart.

After six fights in 16 months, Lewis wants a little break.

It’s causing trouble at home, because I’m walking around with an attitude all the time, he said. Because once I get in beast mode, I’m in beast mode all the way until fight day. I just want to relax my mind a little bit and work on things at my house.

I’ve already blocked my coaches and managers. like they’re some side chicks and put their name ‘Do not answer.’

The Association of Boxing Commissions has proposed formalizing Lewis’s concerns, and it extends beyond memes.

If a combatant, during a round, visibly loses control of a bodily function (i.e. vomit, urine, or bowels), the fight shall be stopped by the referee and the combatant shall lose the contest by TKO,” reads the proposed new rule.

If fecal matter becomes apparent at any time, the bout shall be halted by the referee, and the offending combatant shall lose the contest by TKO.”

So thank you Derrick Lewis, for keeping it all under control, and congratulations for the win, and driving his win streak to 6-0, in a division where streaks are notoriously difficult.
