12-4 IFL and Bellator vet Lew Polley had to make 206 on Friday for a lightheavyweight fight at WSoF. When he unofficially weighed in at an unfathomable 237, he skipped the weigh in entirely, and was cut by the organization.
However, Polley will be fighting Friday – at heavyweight – on the main card of RFA 9: Munhoz vs. Curran televised nationwide on AXS TV.
His opponent will be two-time Div I national champion, Olympian, and highy-touted 2-0 prospect Steve Mocco, who fights out of the American Top Team camp.
Polley is a fellow Div I wrestler, who is familiar to many fans as the wrestling coach for Team dos Santos on TUF 13.
Resurrection Fighting Alliance president Ed Soares announced the change after Mocco’s original opponent, James Wilson, broke his hand in training.
“Lew Polley is tough and experienced and has the confidence to take a fight like this on short notice, said Soares. Mocco is a hungry newcomer who’s considered a top heavyweight prospect. This will be a huge win for either fighter and a thrilling heavyweight fight for RFA fans.
Mocco is a longtime fan of MMA and began training with former UFC fighter Carmelo Marrero at his ATT school in Allentown, Pennsylvania, while serving as a wrestling coach at Lehigh University in nearby Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Marrero eventually introduced Mocco to ATT founder Ricardo Liborio and the rest is history.
Polley beat Marrero his last fight, adding a revenge factor to the fight.
