Former UFC champion Robbie Lawler will have a chance at earning another title shot, but he’ll have to go through former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos.
Earlier this week the UFC announced that Lawler will fight Dos Anjos at a UFC on FOX card in Winnipeg, Canada on December 16th.
The director of PPV marketing for the UFC announced the fight on the Underground:

Although not originally announced as such, UFC President Dana White recently at a press conference that the bout would indeed be for a shot at UFC Champion Tyron Woodley’s welterweight title:
Rafael dos Anjos wanted an interim title fight, but it seems like he’ll be getting the next best thing.
UFC president Dana White said Friday at a UFC 217 press conference in Toronto that the winner between dos Anjos and Robbie Lawler will get the next UFC welterweight title shot against champion Tyron Woodley. The UFC announced Thursday that Lawler and dos Anjos will be meeting in the main event of UFC on FOX 26 on Dec. 16 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The champion Woodley is currently on the shelf with a torn labrum that will keep him out of action for the rest of 2017. No mention was made of an interim title fight, so it’s likely Woodley will be prepared to face the winner of Dos Anjos and Lawler in the spring of 2018.
Lawler is coming a unanimous decision win against Donald Cerrone, prior to which he lost his title to Woodley. As the former champion, it makes sense to be right in a title eliminator fight with the win. Dos Anjos recently moved up to welterweight, defeating Neil Magny by submission at UFC 215.
