Lavar Johnson Expected to Be Released From Hospital ‘Soon’

Lavar Johnson, the Strikeforce heavyweight fighter who was shot multiple times during a family reunion on July 4th weekend, is recovering at a local Bakersfield, Calif., hospital and is expected to be released “soon.” A representative of Zinkin Entertainment, the management company which represents Johnson, informed FanHouse of the news Tuesday.

While Johnson’s injuries were once considered life-threatening, FanHouse has learned that there is now hope that he will be able to resume his MMA career once he fully recovers.

RedWave Tattoo, one of Johnson’s sponsors, has set up a donation page on its Web site for those interested in donating to the Johnson family.

Johnson (12-3) made his Strikeforce debut in May at the first Strikeforce: Challengers event, defeating Carl Seumanutafa in 18 seconds via knockout (video below). The victory marked his fifth in a row.
