Invicta Fighting Championships announced Friday that it has added Aspen Ladd, 19, to the promotion’s flyweight (125 pound) roster. Ladd is currently 8-1 as an amateur, and will be turning pro for Invicta.
I’m thrilled, said the Folsom, California native. It’s been my dream for years now, ever since I first started fighting.
I always assumed there would be three things in my life: work, fighting and school. This is the combination. I get to do my passion for work, and I couldn’t be happier. I just have to prove myself.
A member of the MMAGold Fight Team training under Jim West, Ladd expects to debut in early 2015.
Jason Przewoznik from KnockoutLounge.com interviewed Ladd earlier this year for Tuff-N-Nuff.
Jason Przewoznik: Tell us a bit about yourself, where did you grow up and what was life like growing up? (Family, school, friends)
Aspen Ladd: I grew up in a little mountain community called Pioneer. I was homeschooled.
JP: Were you involved in any sports as a youth in or outside of school?
AL: Technically speaking, MMA because I started when I wasn’t quite 15.
JP: How did you get involved?
AL: I was a shy kid that needed something. I found it. I loved it from my very first time and knew I wanted to fight as soon as I turned 18.
JP: At what point did you know you were ready to step in the cage for the first time?
AL: My first week of MMA. I just had to wait to be old enough first.
JP: What are 3 things you’ve learned while being involved in this sport?
AL: Be dedicated and you will progress. Talent means nothing if you have no work ethic. And perception of a situation is everything.
JP: Do you currently have a nickname in this sport? If so, what is it and why?
AL: Nah, never wanted one. My name is weird enough on it’s own.
JP: If you could offer one bit of advice to an aspiring fighter what would it be?
AL: You will have plenty of time for partying and girls/guys later. Don’t waste your potential on pointless pursuits.
JP: If you could change one thing in the sport, what would it be?
AL: Judges must have some form of martial arts experience in order to qualify for their occupation.
JP: Do you have any children? Do you plan on having any/more?:
AL: No way, I’m the oldest of 6 kids. I’ve already had the Mommy Experience. Not my cup of tea.
JP: Who is your favorite super hero and why?
AL: Iron Man because he is smarter than you. Period. No doubt in his mind. He owns life by always being the most intelligent person in the room.
