Lina Lansberg normally fights at 135 but agreed to go up to a catchweight of 140 vs. Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino in the main event of UFC Fight Night 95 on Saturday. Justino has reported problems cutting weight, but during the official Media Day ‘The Elbow Princess’ said she’s holding firm on the weight.
We are both professionals and we have signed a contract at 140 pounds, said Lansberg to Fernanda Prates for MMAjunkie as Ken Hathaway filmed. And she has already been given 140 instead of 135, and we all have to remember the UFC weight is 135, and she’s the only one fighting above it. I’m fighting at 135 as well, and the contract is 140, so I do expect her to make weight, and I’ll fight at 140 and nothing else.
So if Cyborg misses weight, will Lansberg fight?
No, probably I won’t, no, Lansberg replied.
I was on my way there to buy some fruits and goodies – that I still can eat. And we crossed her way. She was running in her sweat suit. Yeah, I know the feeling, but we’ve known for months, so it’s her responsibility.
Justino reported that after her Thursday morning run she had a little less than 10 pounds to go. She plans to make weight or very nearly by tonight and then show up at the opening of the morning weigh-ins, which are generally from 10:00 a.m. to noon.
If it’s late, it will be because I had a hard cut in the morning, too, said Justino. But I hope to be early. I’ll try to do everything today, and if it happens, a little bit tomorrow. But I want to do today because you can sleep and have your mind be clean and everything all right.
In a piece of good news for Justino, Cristiano Sampaio, the director of Brazil’s regulatory body, the Commission Comissão Atlética Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA), said that the customary one pound allowance for regular, non-title weight divisions would be extended to the catchweight of 140 in effect here. Thus, Justino has to make 141. While one pound doesn’t seem like a lot, at the end of a cut, it is.
