Kyle Kingsbury retired in ring Saturday night, after losing a one-sided decision to Patrick Cummins at UFC on FOX 12. The scores were unheard of: 30-27, 30-25, and 30-24.

I’m not sure if it was the time off or the fact his wrestling is so good, that I was never able to get comfortable in the octagon, said Kingsbury post fight. He set his takedowns well, and I really couldn’t do much to stop them.

That was definitely my last fight. I told everyone I didn’t want to be a .500 fighter, and so enough was enough. It didn’t make sense to get beat up anymore.

Kingsbury lost his previous fight, to Jimi Manuwa, suffering a broken orbital bone in the process. He had not fought in two years. The two fights before that were losses too, to Glover Teixeira and Stephan Bonnar.

Kingsbury expanded on his remarks via Twitter.

Kyle Kingsbury @Kingsbu

•In my run it felt like peaks and valleys but in the end I am completely grateful for it all- every beating I delt out & every beating I took

•I’ve learned more about life in the small window I’ve fought than in any other venture. Life only continues to get better. I love you all 🙂

The Arizona native started with Rage in the Cage, going 5-0. He then moved on to King of the Cage, going 2-1, with one no contest. From there he went to the eighth season of The Ultimate Fighter, where, including the Finale, he went 0-3.

Kingsbury was given another shot in the UFC, and went a perfect 4-0 before the run of losses noted above.
