Kwon Won Il‘s (13-4) callout of ONE bantamweight world champion Fabricio Andrade (9-2) was heard loud and clear this past weekend.
Having said that he would do it in the lead-up to ONE Fight Night 11, “Pretty Boy” registered a second-round knockout against Russian standout Artem Belakh on Friday, June 9, to make it two wins in a row on ONE Championship’s global stage.
And he left no doubt as to who he wants next in his post-fight interview – which was far from family-friendly.
“It’s just my confidence. I’m the best. I’m the best boxer. I made the prediction. I’m the king. Give me the title shot,” Kwon said.
“Some people say that ‘Pretty Boy’s’ done. Hey, please shut the f-ck up. I’ll never give up. Please, one more time, I’ll say Pretty Boy will never die motherf-cker. Doubt me now.
“Fabricio vs. Stephen Loman winner, I’m coming for you. You are f-cking next.”
The South Korean star suffered a first-round knockout against Andrade when they met in 2022, but that loss clearly failed to dent his confidence.
Kwon was awarded a $50,000 performance bonus for his dominant victory at ONE Fight Night 11, and he foresees a run at the world title to follow.
“Wonder Boy” was in the crowd in Bangkok, Thailand, to witness the win, and he responded to his old rival’s comments via a video on Instagram.
“What’s up, guys. I’m here in Lumpinee Stadium. I came to watch the fights, and I saw that Kwon said he wants to fight me again,” Andrade said.
“Kwon, I have some business to finish with Loman. I’m going to knock Loman out first. And then after, it would be my pleasure to give you a second chance, you know.
Man, be ready. Because I’m going to knock you out again – that’s for sure.”
Andrade’s first world title defense is likely going to come against Filipino contender Loman at some point in the near future.
But fans can bet that Kwon will be sharpening his weapons in the hopes that he’ll get a shot at the coveted divisional crown some time after that.
