UFC Lightweight James Krause talked to the UG’s Jonathan Shrager recently in a wide ranging discussion that included the mentally aspect of fighting

“I credit my success to being that I was fortunate enough to help me with the mental aspect of my game,” said Krause. “Anybody can get physical attributes. Just go find a good gym and a good coach – they’ll teach you how to fight. There’s not a shortage of people teaching you how to fight well.

“What there is a shortage of is people to teach you how to mentally prepare to stand across the cage and look another man in the eye, and go to fight. That’s tough.

You see guys like Chael and Connor McGregor, and what they say sounds absolutely absurd to the casual fan. But these guys believe what they say… And it’s good for promotion. Don’t get me wrong; there’s a happy balance. But I think that these guys believe what they’re saying.

“I’m a big believer in the law of attraction – thoughts become things. If you’re thinking that you’re going to become the next world champion, it’s amazing how stuff like that happens.”

“It’s my story especially. I started fixing my mental problems and right as that happened, it was (not) just coincidental that all my success started happening.”

“I did not have a sports psychologist… I was lucky enough to find… he was a mentor to me. One of my good friend’s step dad. He was very successful in business. Had nothing to do with one specify thing.

I wanted something different in life, and he had seen that. He was in that place once – we’re very similar in terms of our story and upbringing. We met once a week for three hours, and it has changed my life, completely.

“it is principle based thinking so it applies to everything in my life. It applies to fighting, it applies to my business, it applies to my marriage, it applies to going out playing tennis, it applies to everything, So it has really changed my life.

“I don’t know why he picked me.”

Later Krause details how he gave out his number on national TV to get Joe Silva to call him.
