 BJJ is one of the three main bases of MMA, along with wrestling, and boxing/Thai boxing. However, the rule set for each prohibits many techniques allowed in the other. For example, a knee to the face is an excellent technique in MMA, but in BJJ not so much.

In this clip, a Gracie Barra blue belt tried breaking a grip with his knee, a standard technique, but instead of coming down on a hand, he drove up into a face. The player in white responds emotionaly.
