King Mo: I’m a seek and destroy fighter, Davis isn’t

“I’ll have to walk him down. Because he’s actually not a seek and destroy fighter…he’s a move, move, move…gotcha [fighter]. I’m a seek and destroy fighter.”

Phil Davis and Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal fight Saturday night at Bellator 154, with the winner getting a shot at division champion Liam McGeary. In a twist, both fighters fought twice in one night at their last event, Lawal in fact three times in two nights.

The fight however, as so many do, may come down to wrestling.

Davis is a four-time All-American at Penn State, and won Div I nationals. Lawal won Div II nationals and was a Div I All American at Oklahoma State University. Lawal wrestled well beyond college, narrowly missing a spot at the 2008 Olympics, and representing the USA at the World Wrestling Championships in 2005.

I’ve known Phil for a while, he’s a cool dude,” said Lawal to Tristen Critchfield for Sherdog. “A little weird, but he’s cool. More laid back, just relaxed. Nothing negative to say about him.

I think I do [have an advantage]. I competed a little longer in wrestling and I wrestled at a higher level. People don’t realize, but he has probably the collegiate experience, but I have a higher pedigree of wrestling than he does.

What do you think? It’s gonna be me chasing him, trying to put my hands on him. That’s about it.”

I’ll have to walk him down. Because he’s actually not a seek and destroy fighter…he’s a move, move, move…gotcha [fighter]. I’m a seek and destroy fighter. He’s not one. He uses his game plan. His game plan is solid. He fights with brains and finds ways to use grappling and stuff like that.
