Kimbo: DaDa hood talk is missing the point
“He think’s he’s the people’s champ, the hood’s with him. I don’t give a f*** about that. You need to be concentrating on what I’m saying to you. I am going to try to f*** you up.
The Bellator 149 co-main event features Kimbo Slice vs. DaDa 5000. It is being marketed as a fight for the King of the Streets title.
Both men came out of the Miami backyard, bareknuckle boxing scene. Slice has gone on to fame and fortune (TapouT was reportedly paying him $50,000 per month at one point). Slice has moved on up to an expensive home in Coral Gables, and is putting his eldest children through college.
DaDa 5000, whose real name is Dhafir Harris, has remained in their old neighborhood of West Perrine, and has spent years using backyard bareknuckle boxing as a means to improve it, as chronicled in the popular Netflix documentary “Dawg Fight.”
I still stay where he left, the same streets where he’s from, said Harris to Dave Doyle for Yahoo Sports. I’m still there. I’m still seeing guys get gunned down, even on Thanksgiving. He’s a seven-figure n***** now who’s moved in with the white folks.
When I came on board, I came on board as a friend. Someone who watched his career blossom from the backyard to the MMA cage on Day 1 against Ray Mercer. And I was there to support him, but the support was not given back. They lied to me and did not fulfill promises.
“I’m just one of the ones that was sent to do what the community has been wanting to do, and that’s remind this guy of where he come from. … I’m there to bring him back home. What goes up must come down.
Slice is not impressed.
“I don’t care what he has to say about the community and what he do. I’m a family man. I got a wife. I got six kids. The goal when you’re a kid is to move up and out of the hood.
He was never a part of our inner circle. He wasn’t a tight part of our crew. He was a guy who was there for a minute and that was it, and ever since then he’s been trying to use that association to make a name for himself.

All the talk about authenticity will not matter Friday night.
Slice had trained for years with American Top Team, and holds a legitimate win the UFC. Harris is 2-0 in MMA, against fighters with a combined record of 1-16. At an open workout recently, Harris did not look like he was ready for a professional fight.
Harris later described the workout as a sort of a possum play.
“I showed them what I want them to see’,” he said.
