It’s a throwback to the old days of the sport. On Wednesday morning, I spoke with Bobby “The Celtic Warrior”. Gunn. He is a former IBA, WBC-USNBC, WBA-NABA, IBC and NABC Cruiserweight champion. His record stands at 21-4-1, with 18 knockouts. Bobby’s a hard-puncher, and a straight-shooter.
An offer has been made that would pit Gunn against YouTube sensation, and UFC fighter, Kimbo Slice, in an old-school, bare-knuckled boxing match.
Before everyone gives a knee-jerk reaction of the brutality involved in bare-knuckled boxing, it should be noted that some pundits believe that it’s actually less brutal than gloved boxing since the matches often end in less time, which means that there is less damage done overall.
Here’s what Bobby had to say:
LS: Hi, Bobby. How are you?
BG: I’m doing good, Lorne.
LS: Tell me about this possible matchup with Kimbo Slice.
BG: Okay, here’s how it would go down, Lorne. It ain’t going to be a street fight like you see on YouTube. It would be under the London Prize Fight Rules, or the rules of John L. Sullivan, before the gloves came. When the gloves came, they were the Queensbury Rules. This will be an old-time, proper fight with a referee and judges.
