It seems former Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight king Khabib Nurmagodmedov isn’t among the people who think Jose Aldo might have one more title run left in him.

Featherweight legend Jose Aldo (30-7) is in the midst of his first winning streak in two years. His back-to-back victories over bantamweights Marlon Vera and, most recently, Pedro Munhoz have some fans and observers of the sport wondering if the Brazilian may be on the brink of another championship opportunity.

Khabib Nurmagomedov calls Jose Aldo ‘businessmen’ fighter now at 34

However, don’t count Nurmagomedov amongst those that think the 34-year-old MMA great is rounding into form as a championship level bantamweight. Considering that “Junior” lost three straight before these wins, and the most recent was a technical knockout defeat to former champion Petr Yan, “The Eagle” told ” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>RT Sport he feels Aldo is now just a businessman competitor, that lacks the same kind of fire he once had as a younger man.

How is he showing it? Nurmagomedov said of Aldo hitting a new peak. He got beat up when he fought; Petr, right? A guy wins one fight and everyone starts talking. When Conor [McGregor] fought ‘Cowboy’ [Donald Cerrone], he looked like a lion. When he fights stronger opponents, he looks like a scared chicken. Fighting top fighters shows your worth.

A fight against ‘Cowboy’ won’t show what level you’re at, just like Aldo’s fight against Pedro Munhoz. Let him fight Petr the same way. Then we can say he’s peaking again. You saw what he did. He closed up and waited for the ref to stop the fight. That shows that you’re not at your peak. If you’re getting hit and you’re conscious and you’re not defending yourself, I call those fighters businessmen. They come out to make money.

Is the Russian MMA superstar on to something with his comments, or is unfairly underestimating the former UFC champion?
