Less than a week removed from the announcement that he is on the board of a fighters association (MMAAA), which has embittered former promoter Bjorn Rebney in a key role, Tim Kennedy discussed the overwhelming support the association has received from other fighters. While he declined to go on the record with official numbers, Kennedy did reveal that the number is big.

Since then I have, in addition to the ones that we had lined up beforehand that were part of the original announcement, maybe two hundred [messages] asking ‘how do I sign up,’” said Kennedy.

According to Kennedy, the most impressive part of this isn’t the sheer numbers, but what those numbers include.

You won’t believe the hundreds of fighters that we have,” he said. “I’m not talking former fighters – I’m talking current fighters.

Kennedy was asked if the group includes champions.

“Absolutely,” he replied definitively.

In addition to being bullish on the amount of support they have, Kennedy added that there was no discussion or chance that a work stoppage would ever be a real option. Comparing the support they have received to other major sports associations, he suggested that the UFC would want to work with a number so large.

We could go forward just with what we have and be massively successful,” he said.

Only time will tell just whether his forecast is accurate and what that success would entail.

The war hero also discussed General James Mad Dog Mattis and maked a plea for Anthony Pettis to call him, so he can help Pettis defend his home.
