Josh Burkman was a member of season two of the Ultimate Fighter and fought in the UFC for three years before being released by the organization. Burkman amassed a 5-4 record in the Octagon, but it was the three losing fights in a row that ended his UFC career.
After his time in the UFC, Burkman would amass a 9-2 record making a new name for himself, mostly in the World Series of Fighting organization. Now, he’s back with the UFC:
UFC President Dana White tweeted a photo of Burkman signing a new contract on Friday afternoon.
I’ve put those issues (with WSOF) behind me, and I know I’m on board, Burkman told MMAjunkie in early September. If I wasn’t happy with World Series of Fighting and the direction they’re going, I wouldn’t have signed this new three-fight deal. I know we’re going to do great things with World Series of fighting. I want the belt, and I’ll put all the previous issues behind me.
Earlier this year, Burkman was critical of the way WSOF handled his contract.
Not long after announcing the signing, Burkman’s first fight was announced:
He’ll certainly have a tough test ahead of him as he meets Lombard, who is currently 2-0 in the UFC welterweight division with wins over Nate Marquardt and Jake Shields.
The newly paired matchup joins the UFC 182 fight card headlined by UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones against top contender Daniel Cormier.
