Back in Brazil, WEC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo has been giving support for team mates over at the Nova Uniao facility in Rio de Janeiro. The astonishing fighter told Tatame that he might defend the belt in January against Mark Hominick, who has already fought for UFC:
“Whoever it may be, I always respect everybody. We may already have a title defense in January with Mark Hominick, a Canadian very good in kickboxing.”

Hominick’s longtime mentor and trainer Shawn Tompkins tells us that his charge is still in a cast recovering from a broken hand he suffered training for his impressive victory over Leonard Garcia at WEC 51 last month.
Although he would not confirm whether they had signed on for the January fight with Aldo, Tompkins did that they would take the fight in a heartbeat if it was offered.
We have since confirmed with another independent source that the bout has indeed been tentatively penciled in for the yet-to-be announced January WEC 54 show which may possibly take place in Phoenix, AZ and that the bout could be signed in the next few weeks if Hominick is cleared to begin train by an orthopedic surgeon.
Sources close to the WEC today told MMAjunkie.com the Hominick fight is far from a done deal. In addition to Hominick, sources said Josh Grispi could receive consideration as Aldo’s next challenger. And he already owns a past victory over Hominick, a crowd-pleasing Canadian kickboxer who is 6-1 over his past seven fights.
Grispi boats a 10-fight win streak and perfect 4-0 WEC record into next month’s WEC 52 meeting with Erik Koch.
