Initial reports were that UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo has suffered an injury and was forced to withdraw from an August 6 bout with Chad Mendes. However, Aldo took to twitter to clarify:
“Let me be clear I’m not hurt again, I’m not hurt. I picked up a suspension the Canadian commission and therefore should only return to training 30 days this month. So once again, I’m not injured.”
After UFC 129 on April 30, the Ontario Athletic Commission suspendwed a number of fighters including Jose Aldo, for lacerations. Ironically, the UG suspension report also inlcuded a piece on fighters training under suspension, and that is precisely what did not happen here. Aldo took the suspension seriously, and reports he would not be training until May 30, which did not leave sufficient time to compete at the highest level on Aug 6.
He does however feel he will be rady by UFC 134 in Rio on August 27.
Mendes’ manager Mike Roberts said Mendes is still looking for a bout at UFC 133.
