UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo suffered a shoulder and spine injury while working takedowns on Tuesday, and is out of his main event fight vs. Chad Mendes on August 3 at UFC 176.

UFC president Dana White confirmed with me that Jose Aldo is injured and is now out of his fight with Chad Mendes at UFC 176 at Los Angeles,” said Ariel Helwani on FOX Sports 1’s UFC Tonight. “There’s no word on a replacement yet.

Aldo started physical therapy on Wednesday, but will be unable to train for three weeks, when he will be evaluated again.
