Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masivdal appeared recently on the Stand and Bang MMA podcast, and reported that he is moving from lightweight up to welterweight.

The move is unusual, as division changes generally happen in the other direction, and when a fighter goes on a losing streak.

Masvidal is ranked #15 in the UFC’s lightweight division; after seven fights his only losses are a controversial split decision vs. Al Iaquinta, and a close decision loss to Rustam Khabilov in 2010.

Masvidal said he was wanted to try 170 since he was in Strikeforce, and is walking around at 193. He remained at 155 as he thought it was better for his career, but is now going to try his hand here:
