Earlier today the UFC announced that Jon Jones would next defend his light heavyweight title against Alexander Gustafson. Jones will be a heavy favorite in the bout according to the first betting lines released today:
At -800 to Gustafsson’s +500, the line represents the second-highest opening number for a Jones title defense. He opened as high as -925 for his fight against Vitor Belfort this past September. Against Chael Sonnen in April at UFC 159, he opened -600 before climbing as high as -1100 at fight time. He won handily with a first-round TKO.
Oddessa said even at -800, the line could be low.
“It’s one of those ‘I can’t make the price high enough bouts,'” said Oddessa, who can be found at @mmaodds on Twitter. “On fight night, there won’t be a betting favorites parlay that doesn’t include Jon Jones.”
