Insults put asses in seats, so fighter’s talk trash leading up to a fight, whether they mean it or not. UFC interim light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and champion Daniel Cormier genuinely do not like each other, in the least.

So there has been years of trash talk. It peaked with a conditional death threat in August of 2014, but has burbled along reliably the past few weeks and months.

Earlier this month Cormier told TMZ Sports that he was getting traction not with four-letter words, but with the three letter “bum.” On Wednesday, Jones responded during an appearance on Fox Sports Live with Jay and Dan.

“How am I a bum?” asked Jones, as transcribed by Jed Meshew for MMA Fighting. “I don’t get it. I’ve broken a lot of records. I’ve taken his undefeated record. I’ve won more light heavyweight championships than he has. I’ve been doing pretty well throughout my whole career so I don’t see how I’m a bum. I think it’s funny that he thinks this gets to me.”

“I’m so in his head, I have a mansion in DC’s head. Right now I’m swimming in my swimming pool in the mansion in his head.”

“I’ve been thinking, I remember one of the guys* refused to call Ali, Muhammad Ali; they were calling him Cassius Clay. And I remember Ali beat the shit out of the guy and was like, ‘What’s my name? Say my name!’ So I may just have DC call me ‘daddy’ on the night of the fight.”

Jon Jones fights Daniel Cormier in the main event of UFC 200 on July 9.
