Dan Gable won a gold medal in the 1972 Olympics without a single point scored on him; it has never happened before, or since. The next morning he trained. Jon Jones borrowed a page from the book of Gable, and reports that he will be back in training within a week.

On FOX Sports 1, Jones explained that his recent move from New York to Albuquerque, NM, home of Jackson/Winkeljohn MMA, will mean he trains year round, instead of just during camp.

If you pay attention to my career, you know I don’t train between fights,” said Jones as transcribed by Tristen Critchfield for Sherdog. “I never have. And now I live in Albuquerque. My family’s there. We’re happy, we have good friends. I feel complete now. I already told my coaches, ‘Don’t expect any BS from me.’ I’ll be back in practice as soon as my face heals, probably within a week. I’m getting right back to work.

Why would I start training right away? I moved to Albuquerque now. That’s something I’ve been missing. I wasted a lot of time. I get fat in between camps. I do a lot of things that are immature. I’m 27 now. I’m just growing, man. I’ve experienced a lot of enlightenment. What I need to do, because I’m not getting any younger, is I need to start training in my offseasons. So this next fight will be the best. I will be at my best.

UFC president Dana White reiterated that Jones will next face the winner of Alexander Gustafsson vs. Anthony Johnson at UFC on Fox 14, on January 24.

I don’t care which one I fight,” said Jones. “To beat Anthony Johnson would be great because that’s somebody I haven’t fought yet, and he has a lot of believers. I‘m here to conquer all the land. I do believe that I’ve beaten Alexander already — no matter how ugly it was or how close it was — I did win that fight. But at the same time, to shut up more haters and more doubters is starting to be one of my motivating factors. I do love to fight. I love to honor the gift that God has given me. Proving haters wrong and the doubters wrong is a driving force as well.

There’s a lot more work that needs to be done. I really do want to be the greatest fighter. I believe this is the year I have a lot to prove. It’s time for me to get back to work. I’ve won several fights before and it’s not anything new. It’s back to the drawing board.
