At UFC 182 light heavyweight champion Jon Jones out struck, out wrestled, and out grinded challenger Daniel Cormier. In the final seconds, after round after round of new tricks like striking while back pedaling, and backkicking from the clinch, Jones played a final trick.

Whether as a ruse or out of supreme confidence or supreme disregard, before the final bell even sounded, Jones held his arms overhead, signaling the fight was over. Cormier dropped his hands, and then Jones got in some final shots.

As the bell rang, Cormier was responding in kind, and he didn’t let the ding completely stop him. It appeared as if referee Herb Dean got the worst of the final flurry.

Many fans have opined that Jones needs to embrace the heel. He did it literally, borrowing a signature double chops to the crotch move from the WWE heels D-Generation X.
