Most of the trash talk in MMA is manufactured in order to put asses in seats, just as it is in professional wrestling. However, some of it is as real as it gets, like UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.
Jones successfully defended his title vs. Cormier, but lost it to himself, when he drove a rental into a car driven by a pregnant woman, breaking her arm. He ran away, but then thought the better of it, ran back to his car, stuffed money into his shorts, and ran away again, leaving behind marijuana. It is widely presumed the reason he ran was he would not have passed an impairment test.
In Jones absence, Cormier beat Anthony Johnson for the vacated title. When Jones returned from his suspension, he failed an anti-doping test, after he took a contaminated, bootleg, erectile dysfunction drug, and was suspended again.
Jones is returning again from suspension, and the UFC is trying to put together a Cormier rematch at UFC 214 on July 29, 2017. However, Jones apparently has yet to sign, and DC is not impressed.
