Just after 10 p.m. Thursday, the call ahead of the call came from the New England Patriots.
Moments later, first round draft choice Chandler Jones, younger brother of UFC Lightheavyweight champion Jon Jones, was chosen 21st overall by the New England Patriots.
In a room crowded with family and media members in the home of Jon “Bones” Jones, the news was particularly welcome given the team’s relative proximity to home.
“For me to be a first-round draft pick, for them to say I’m the 21st-best player in the nation, I feel like it’s a blessing from God,” Chandler said.
“Oh he’s my brother, but when we get on that field if we’re both on special teams, I’m going to have to knock him over a little bit,” Arthur said. Arthur was a fifth round (157th overall) draft pick in 2010.
“Right now the kid is a broke college kid, but 24 hours from now he’ll be more successful than me and Arthur put together,” Jon Jones said of his little brother.
