UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is currently taking a break from training and fighting. He earned it.

“I fought Jones, I fought ‘Rumble’ Johnson, and I fought Alexander Gustafsson,” he said. “I fought the toughest guys the division has to offer – all in 10 months, at 36 years old. I need a little bit of a break.”

There is no rest for the weary.

Former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is back in training, and UFC president Dana White is on the record as saying he will get an immediate title shot when he returns.

Jon Bones Jones @JonnyBones

Take as much time as you want, the fire inside of me won’t be dying down anytime soon. #AndStill

Cormier replied, perhaps a little wearily.

Daniel Cormier @dc_mma

I will take my time. I’ve been fighting against the best in the world not dealing with nonsense. Our time is coming. #growup #urnotakid

Jones use of the hashtag #AndStill is a little different. He lost his title, in a stunningly shameful fashion, dashing away from a car accident that broke a pregnant woman’s arm, stuffing bills in his pockets, with the detritus of a trashed life in the glove compartment. Whatever he is #AndStill, it is not the UFC champion.

The UFC has no officially reinstated Jones, and the rest of 2015 is booked solid, but expect Cormier vs. Jones II sometime next year, hopefully earlier rather than later.
