Demetrious Johnson kicked Henry Cejudo to the calf in Round 1 of the UFC 227 co-main, causing it to crap weirdly; it looked briefly like that could be the end of the fight. However, Johnson said at the post-fight press conference that believes he himself suffered two lower extremity injuries.

It was also Johnson’s first loss in seven years, the end of 12 straight title defenses, and the loss of his pound for pound title. He was asked how he’s coping with the loss.

I’m fine, said Johnson, as transcribed by Dan Hiergesell for MMA Mania, . Losing happens. Every great champion loses. I’ve lost before when I fought Dom [Dominick Cruz]. I lose in the gym. So I’m fine. I’m more upset about the injuries but other than that I’m okay.

I think I probably tore my right LCL and then my right foot might be broken, explained the former champ. I think the right LCL probably happened in the second or third round. I remember we were scrambling and I maybe shot and then he kind of pushed me over and I rolled over on my right knee and I was like ‘there goes the right LCL.’

And the foot, that’s just from kicking and kicking and kicking and kicking.

Hopefully, a trilogy fight is coming, sooner rather than later.
