Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is turning up in unusual places, I just heard “…learn to grab it by the throat and jiu jitsu it into submission” in a Prius commercial.
When I first saw the commercial, I thought I was hearing things. I replayed it on my DVR and couldn’t believe my ears. I like hearing advertisers make casual references to my favorite sport—and to expect that their customers will understand what they’re talking about.
It’s not unusual to see martial arts used in advertising, but I can’t think of another time I’ve heard Brazilian jiu jitsu mentioned—and used as a verb.
Toyota’s marketing team must feel confident that their target market will understand that reference to one of the skill sets of the mixture making up MMA.
