Talking to Cagewriter’s Steve Cofield following Jens Pulver’s tough loss to Josh Grispi on Sunday, Pulver appears to be shying away from his adrenaline-dump retirement talk.
“You guys have to understand, I don’t make six figures a year,” Pulver said. “The keyboard warriors, they’ll write me off and say, ‘He’s done, he’s done.’ But I just sat there with all the fans of Sacramento, and they all pretty much told me, ‘You’re not done.’”
In fairness, it’s probably not such a great idea to be taking career advice from a bunch of drunk spectators — particularly when they’re not the ones getting their brains dented. Cofield points out that Pulver is only 33 years old. The problem is, everyone wears those numbers differently. Pulver has been in it for 10 years, and he’s in a weight class where loss of speed amounts to a loss of income.
Pulver can do as he pleases, but there comes a point when enough is enough. If he doesn’t feel that way, perhaps the WEC should.
