UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk beat Claudia Gadelha in The Ultimate Fighter 23 Finale via unanimous decision.

There is little disagreement that Gadelha’s wrestling heavy game took the first two rounds. And there is no disagreement that Jedrzejczyk took the last two rounds, and very, very little that she won the third.

For example, Gadelha thought she won the third, but her coaches didn’t

However, when the scores were announced, they were weird – (48-45, 48-46, 48-46). If a fighter won ever round 10-9, the score would be 50-45, so the 45 sounded like one fighter won no rounds.

MMAjunkie got a image of the score cards though, which explains all.

Round 1: Dave Hagen (10-9 Gadelha), Jeff Mullen  (10-9 Gadelha?), Marcos Rosales  (10-9 Gadelha?)

Round 2: Dave Hagen (10-9 Gadelha?), Jeff Mullen (10-9 Gadelha?), Marcos Rosales  (10-9 Gadelha?)

Round 3: Dave Hagen (Jedrzejczyk 10-9), Jeff Mullen (Jedrzejczyk 10-9), Marcos Rosales  (Jedrzejczyk 10-9)

Round 4: Dave Hagen (Jedrzejczyk 10-8), Jeff Mullen (Jedrzejczyk 10-8), Marcos Rosales  (Jedrzejczyk 10-8)

Round 5: Dave Hagen (Jedrzejczyk 10-8), Jeff Mullen (Jedrzejczyk 10-9), Marcos Rosales  (Jedrzejczyk 10-9)

There was near complete unanimity, with all three judges scoring every single round for the same fighter. The sole point of disagreement was on the degree to which Jedrzejczyk won the final round.

This was an excellent, excellent fight, judged excellently, with a score that looked weird at first glance.
