Although Valeria Letourneau was not the UFC’s first choice to fight for the women’s strawewight title, champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk believes she is deserving of the fight and is happy to be fighting on the same card as Ronda Rousey:

I’m super happy that she beat Maryna Moroz because (Moroz) had a really big mouth; she called me and wants to fight me, but Valerie did a great job with Maryna Moroz, Jedrzejczyk said at today’s UFC 193 press conference. She almost knocked her out in the first round, so she did well and she deserves to fight for a title.

Although the women’s divisions are still the newest to the UFC roster, UFC 193, which also includes a headliner between women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm, is the first in UFC history with two female title fights at the top of the card.

Jedrzejczyk said she’s pleased to compete alongside Rousey and receive the spotlight that comes along with co-headlining under arguably the sport’s biggest star.

I’m very happy to fight on the same card with Ronda, and I’m grateful to fight in Australia, Jedrzejczyk said. I had a main-event fight in Berlin; it was my first title defense at the end of June. I’m very happy to come here and fight on UFC 193.
