Former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner has retired at age 30, after over ten years of professional fighting.

The announcement came after a loss to Drew Dober at the UFC on FOX 13 Saturday night, in front of a hometown crowd in Phoenix, Arizona.

“I had planned this a long time ago,” said Varner. “I knew this was going to be my last fight. I can’t keep up with these young kids anymore. I’m battling injuries all the time. My hat is off to Drew. He came in, hostile territory, and fought his ass off. It’s been an absolute dream. I’ve been fighting a long time. It’s been a dream. I own a gym, I’ve done things I never thought I could do.”

Varner retires with a career record of 21-11-1 with 2 No Contests. He holds career wins over Donald Cerrone, Rob McCullough, and Melvin Guillard among many others.

He will now devote his time to his students at Impact MMA, in Scottsdale, AZ.
