If Bjorn Rebeny was the mean face of Bellator MMA, Jade Bryce was its hot body. The promotion, now under new president Scott Coker, declined to renew her contract, telling Bryce they had chosen to go in a different direction.

Bryce appeared recently on MMAJunkie Radio and speculated about that direction might be.

I don’t have reasons – just my contract was up, and we talked and said that we were going in different directions, said Bryce as transcribed by Steven Marrocco for MMAJunkie. I don’t have the exact direction they’re going in. I would imagine it would be another blonde since Mercedes is a brunette; they’d probably want to have variety, but I’m not sure.

Of course, there’s other organizations that probably pay more and have more notoriety, but Bellator was my family. Had I been offered something else, it would have been very hard to leave. Even now, it’s really weird to think I’m not going to see them every week.

Bryce said she hoped to continue working for Bellator in some capacity, and remained committed to the sport.

The release capped a bad month for the model. Bryce took a trip to South America earlier in December and had her belongings stolen, was abandoned by traveling companions, and was stuck on a bus without food for 36 hours.

When she returned to the US, someone had egged her car and the mess sat for so long, she couldn’t get it off.

I’m still trying to think of a positive way to think about everything, said Bryce. I think maybe the universe is trying to get me to wake up. Maybe I haven’t been focused on all the things I should be focused on this year – self-growth and really giving back. Maybe spiritually, I’ve been asleep. So I feel like a bunch of bad things are happening to wake me up.

While Bryce had a bad month, Invicta FC matchmaker and color commentator did not seemed charmed by the entire year.
