The Mannequin Challenge is a viral Internet video phenomenon in which participants remain frozen in action like mannequins, while a moving smartphone films them. It is believed to have been started by students in Jacksonville, Florida on October 12, 2016, and has since been copied by a wide variety of groups, sometimes with remarkable complexity.
Multiple inspirations have been cited for The Mannequin Challenge, from bullet time scenes in action films like The Matrix and X-Men: Days of Future Past, to participatory memes on social media like the Harlem Shake. Most recently, similarities have been noted with the new HBO TV series Westworld, in which robots can be stopped in their tracks.
The MMA world is driven in no small part by social media, and is not immune to The Challenge. Perhaps the best one to day recently emerged from Kings MMA. It features at its center Mike Tyson and Roy Nelson.
