No disrespect to Gilbert Melendez, Nate Marquardt, Gegard Mousasi, or the plethora of world class mixed martial arts talent fighting overseas, but Pat Curran is the best fighter not currently in the UFC.
The 24-year-old became the Bellator featherweight champion Friday knocking Joe Warren out with a barrage of punches in the third round at Bellator 60.
Warren is considered one of the best wrestlers in the sport, but Curran defended his takedown attempts with ease.
Warren is also known for being able to take a world of punishment and keep moving forward, but Curran stopped him in his tracks.
Warren’s killer instinct and the way he throws a wide array of strikes including knees, elbows, kicks and punches, is very much like Jose Aldo — the current king of the featherweight castle.
His only loss since 2009 was a competitive five-round decision to former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez.
