Invasion of Russia doesn’t work out well
The past week there was an American Invasion of Russia, but by and large, it didn’t go so well.

There is a thing underway in USA-based mixed martial arts called The Russian Invasion. And there is a wildly exciting MMA scene in Russia that it comes from. The past week there was an American Invasion of Russia, but by and large, as Napoleon learned in 1812, it didn’t go so well.
Caposa, a treasure in this sport, delivers the best of it.
Konstantin Andreitsev vs. Chase Gormley
Heavyweight and super heavyweight UFC, IFC, MFC, KOTC, and Bellator vet Chase Gormley journeyed to Sochi, Russia to fight Konstantin Andreitsev at S-70 Plotforma Cup 2018. Gormley’s head went one way so fast that inertia probably kept his brain where it was, leading to internal havoc.

Alexander Romanov vs. Virgil Zwicker
Native American heavyweight invader Virgil Zwicker also journeyed to Sochi, vs. Alexander Romanov, but got souplessed and tapped to what appears to be similar to the pin Josh Barnett used to tap Dean Lister with at Metamoris 4 on August 9, 2014.

Viktor Kolesnik vs. Daniel Swain
American invader Daniel ‘Agent Orange’ Swain traveled to M-1 Challenge 96 in St. Petersburg, Russia, and tapped to a finish perhaps not seen since Royce Gracie vs. Kazushi Sakuraba at the Pride Grand Prix 2000 Finals.

Arman Tsarukyan vs. Felipe Olivieri
South American Invader Felipe Olivieri fought Armenia’s Arman Tsarukyan, also at S-70, and also fell, to a head kick.

Sergey Khandozhko vs. Adriano Rodrigues
Another South American invader fight took place at S-70, and you know what happened. In this case the precise ending was a Spinning Liver KIIIIICK, the only MMA technique more painful than that Khal Drogo pour-molten-metal-down-your-throat trick.

Yasubey Enomoto vs. Alexei Ivanov
The sole invasion that worked was a Japanese-Peruvian-Swiss invasion by ‘The Swiss Samurai’ Yasubey Enomoto, who calmly lined up Russia’s Ivanov, dropped him, and then kindly checked on his condition.

The moral of the story is an old one – don’t invade Russia. Unless you’re Japanese-Peruvian-Swiss.
The other moral of the story is that Caposa is a treasure.
