Illness forces Uncle Creepy off UFC Fight Night 99

UG hero Ian ‘Uncle Creepy’ McCall had his third fight in a row canceled on the eve of the event.

At UFC 201 in July opponent Justin Scoggins failed to make his contracted weight and the fight was scrapped. At UFC 203 in September opponent Ray Borg became ill and the fight was scrapped. This time it was McCall who became ill. McCall is currently in the hospital recovering.

Ranked the #5 contender at flyweight, McCall has not fought since January 31, 2015, a loss to John Lineker at a 130 catchweight after Lineker failed to make weight.

Earlier in the week, McCall to MMAjunkie Radio that if opponent Neil Seery for whatever reason could not fight, it would not devastate him.

There is no pit in my stomach, said McCall, as transcribed by MMAjunkie. If he makes weight, or if he shows up, then he shows up. If he doesn’t, then I get paid again.

This fight was to have been the 37-year-old Irish MMA pioneer Seery’s last, win, lose, or draw. Seery made weight successfully and will be paid his show money.

I nearly burst out crying, to tell you the truth, said Seery to MMAjunkie. I was so upset. There’s nothing I can do. Me giving out about it and crying isn’t going to change the fact that I’m not fighting tomorrow. I’m going to go home, I’m going to sit down with my wife and basically see what’s next.

One-hundred percent, [I want to fight one more time]. I don’t think I’m going to go out like this. I had a lot of support coming up from Dublin. I had a fantastic training camp, I felt really good, I made the 126 like I always do.

Nothing I say is going to change a thing – it’s disappointing. I’m, disgusted really. To be honest, I don’t even know if I’m going to go to the show. It’s happened to me before when I fought for a previous promotion. It was the exact same thing, and I stood on the scales and I went to the show and it’s just heartbreaking watching everyone else do that walk.
