Flyweight contender Ian McCall has been removed from tonight’s UFC 208 bout against Jarred Brooks due to illness. McCall was transported to a local hospital with gastrointestinal issues and was pulled from the card on the doctor’s recommendation. The UFC 208 card at Barclays Center will proceed as scheduled with 10 bouts.

His opponent Jarred Brooks expressed disappointment and regret.

Brooks’ manager Monte Cox also conveyed the difficulty of the situation.

“Just had to make one of the toughest calls in 20 years as an MMA manager… had to tell Jarred Brooks he wasn’t fighting tonight in UFC 208 in Brooklyn, NY,” wrote Cox on his social network. “His opponent, Ian McCall, is too sick to fight and the doctor wouldn’t clear him. This happened literally 6 hours before the fight was to happen.

“For Brooks, this was supposed to be his day to shine … his chance to show the world why he has won 29 straight fights, including his last 12 as a pro. Obviously, he is devastated. But UFC officials say they will get him into the Octagon very soon and Brooks will get his chance.

“Although it was crushing, Brooks handled himself like a professional. But even a personal call from Dana White can’t rid him of the disappointment.

“Thanks to the teammates and trainers who got him ready on short notice, and to all the family, friends and fans for their support.

“Stay tuned… Jarred’s day is coming!”

This is the ninth time and the fourth time in a row McCall has seen a fight canceled during fight week.

UFC 201: Opponent Justin Scoggins pulled out two days before, due to missing weight .
UFC 203: Opponent Ray Borg pulled out three days before, due to illness.
UFC Fight Night 99: McCall pulled out of fight with Neil Seery one day before, due to illness.
And now at UFC 208, McCall has pulled out on the day of the event due to illness.
