While the video below does not belong in the Worst MMA Ref Hall of Shame (see bottom for examples) It never the less illustrates that refs often do not have an understanding of the most fundamental techniques in mixed martial arts, and what those techniques do.

Like cutting blood off to the brain until unconsciousness results.
