Holly Holm was just ninety-seconds away from defending her bantamweight title before being submitted by Miesha Tate at UFC 196. Holm discussed the emotions of the loss shortly after the fight with Ariel Helwani.

Ariel Helwani: Can you describe your emotions you’re feeling after the loss?

Holly Holm: You know, it’s just…I gotta go back to the drawing board and get better. I know my whole career’s been on the fast-track, but I believe that I belong here for a reason and I need to keep improving.

Ariel Helwani: How did you feel out there, first round through four? How were you feeling?

Holly Holm: You know I felt I had rounds one, three, four, and even five. I know she had round two. She had the takedown, she was on top of me. Round five, she got the choke. I made some big mistakes, I should have been fighting the hands first and not even trying to shuck her off like you. I just let my guard down. And that fight, if I wouldn’t have done that. I should have just had my guard up a little bit.

Ariel Helwani: Have you had a chance to re-watch the finish? What do you think was the biggest mistake that played in her hand?

Holly Holm: I haven’t watched it, but I know the biggest mistakes. I wasn’t fighting the hands right away. First I shouldn’t even have let her get underneath me. That’s the biggest mistake. I should have been more attentive to that, should have been more careful with that. I knew that going into the fight and I dropped my guard for a minute.

Ariel Helwani: Physically how are you feeling right now?

Holly Holm: I feel fine. You know, my heart hurts.

Ariel Helwani: What would you like to do? Would you like to take an extended…I know it’s been a whirlwind since UFC 193. Would you like to take some time off or come right back? What are you thinking?

Holly Holm: Let’s just get in there. Let’s get in there and get it back.
